Apple Inc. is hiring the chief executive officer of U.K. electronics retailer Dixons to head up its retail division.
John Browett, the ceo of Dixons since 2007, will leave the U.K. retail chain in April to join Apple. He will report to Apple ceo Tim Cook.
Browett is credited with turning around the once struggling Dixons chain, which carries computers, white goods, TVs, CDs and software. At Apple, Browett succeeds Ron Johnson, who left the Cupertino, Calif.-based firm last fall to become ceo of J.C. Penney Inc.
Cook said, “Our retail stores are all about customer service, and John shares that commitment like no one else we’ve met.”
