David Stovall Jr. stepped down as chief executive officer of Stein Mart Inc. Friday after three years on the job.
Chairman Jay Stein will serve as interim ceo as the discount chain searches for a successor.
“On behalf of the board, I want to thank Dave for his service to Stein Mart over the last three years, and in particular, his accomplishments in returning the company to solid profitability,” said Stein. “We wish him many happy years of well-earned retirement.”
Robert Mettler, who is a director at the firm and was formerly chairman and ceo of Macy’s West, serves as chair of board’s strategic planning committee and will lead the search for Stovall’s replacement.
