Target’s Gregg Steinhafel Elected RILA Chairman

He succeeds Bill Rhodes in the post.

WASHINGTON — Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Target Corp., has been elected chairman of the Retail Industry Leaders Association.

“I value RILA and its efforts to champion issues that affect our industry, our workforce and our customers,” Steinhafel said.

Previously vice chairman of RILA, he succeeds Bill Rhodes, chairman, president and ceo of AutoZone. Rhodes will remain a member of RILA’s board. Richard Dreiling, chairman and ceo of Dollar General Corp. was elected vice chairman and Gregory Wasson, ceo and president of Walgreen Co., was elected second vice chairman.

RILA, which represents mostly mass merchants, is active in several lobbying issues important to the retail industry, including pressing for legislation that would enable states to collect sales taxes from out-of-state merchants regardless of whether they have a physical presence in the state.
