Tom Sands, who has most recently served as executive vice president at Old Navy, has been named executive vice president of Gap North America.
Sands succeeds Gap veteran Mark Breitbard, who is leaving the company this week to join The Gymboree Corp. as chief executive officer. Sands will report to Steve Sunnucks, global president of the Gap brand, as did Breitbard.
Due to his tenure at Gap and reputation as a strong leader and entrepreneurial merchant, Breitbard held the title of president of Gap North America. He starts his new job at Gymboree on Monday.
“I am [pleased] by the opportunity to join Gymboree, an established leader in the children’s apparel market with strong brands, a loyal and valuable customer franchise, a values-based culture, and a passionate team,” Breitbard said Tuesday, when WWD first reported his move to Gymboree. “I look forward to working with our associates and leadership team to build on the strategies they’ve developed and drive our growth opportunities in our core business, in our new concepts such as Crazy 8 and in our international markets.”
Breitbard once served as president of the retail division of Levi Strauss & Co., and held executive positions at Abercrombie & Fitch Co., Banana Republic and Old Navy, as well as serving as executive vice president of GapKids and BabyGap.
On Tuesday, Gap also confirmed the departure of Evan Price, a vice president of finance for Gap North America. He’s expected to be joining Gymboree as well. Friday will be his last day at Gap.
