CHICAGO — Montgomery Ward appears to be rebuilding its old management team with the appointment of Bernard W. Andrews as president and chief operating officer of Montgomery Ward Retail.

Andrews, who was with Ward’s from 1983 to 1990, first as executive vice president for home and auto and then as president, marketing, rejoins the company after a stint as executive vice president of Circuit City.

As reported, Ward’s also recently announced the return of another former executive, Robert Connolly, as executive vice president for apparel.

Andrews will assume the merchandising responsibilities of Hal Kahn, who recently left Ward’s, and will also be responsible for distribution and product servicing. He will report to Bernard F. Brennan, chairman and chief executive officer.

Andrews’s association with Brennan dates to the mid-Seventies, when the two were colleagues at Sears, Roebuck & Co.
