NEW YORK — Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street will fete all of its suppliers and vendors March 23 with an “appreciation night” at the flagship.

Thousands of employees from 1,400 vendors and suppliers that sell the flagship have been invited for what Michael Gould, Bloomingdale’s chief executive officer, calls “a special shopping night not just for the ceo’s.”

“It’s for secretaries, guys in the shipping departments, salespeople — all those who help us on 59th Street,” he said. “We hope it will be a fun night. We’ll have special offerings, entertainment, refreshments, live music. It’s a casual thing, but truly private.”

Normally, the flagship closes to the public at 7 p.m. on Wednesday nights. However, for resource appreciation night, the doors will close at 5 p.m., then reopen from 6 to 10 p.m. for those with invitations.

Everybody at the event will get two certificates, each entitling them to 10 percent off an item they buy. There will also be drawings for a trip a Hawaii, a spa vacation, a Lake George retreat and tickets to Beauty and the Beast. No purchases are necessary.

These incentives to shop should help build the evening’s volume. However, Gould said he doesn’t expect a big sales gain on the day since the store will be closed to the public two hours earlier than normal.

Bloomingdale’s has held other special shopping nights for key customers, which focus on discounts in certain departments.

Resource appreciation night, however, “is just a way to say thank you to our resources,” Gould said.
