NEW YORK — Jimmy’s, a landmark Brooklyn apparel retailer, is finally crossing the East River and setting up shop in Manhattan after 40 years.

The family-owned firm will open a 900-square-foot boutique next Friday at 150 East 72nd St., at Lexington Avenue.

The shop will occupy the ground floor of a townhouse and carry a mix of high-end European and American designers, said Dominick Lepore, a partner, who will manage the store with his wife, Betsy. She is the daughter of founders Jimmy and Gloria Jacobs.

It will be about 70 percent women’s and 30 percent men’s, with such European resources as Prada, Gianni Versace and Karl Lagerfeld and Americans including Victor Alfaro, Pamela Dennis and Sylvia Heisel.

Jimmy’s flagship in Brooklyn is a three-level store on Kings Highway.

Why the move to Manhattan?

“Well, we’re a family business,” said Lepore, “and the family has grown. Now there are enough of us to run another store.”
