NEW YORK — The Doneger Group, based here, plans to open a Los Angeles office soon and has hired industry veteran Janine Blain to head the new operation.
Doneger’s clients range from independent boutiques to chains such as Nordstrom, Penney’s, Kohl’s, Belk, Dillard’s and Wal-Mart.
Blain has more than 20 years’ experience in the West Coast market, having held buying, merchandising and selling jobs at Macy’s West, Elie Tahari, Directives West and C&C California. She will work with Doneger’s clients to present “a customized fashion point of view” on West Coast lifestyle, fashion and retail trends, including the contemporary, accessories, junior, men’s contemporary and surf-skate lifestyle markets, the company said.
Abbey Doneger, chief executive officer of The Doneger Group, said the firm is close to signing a lease for an office and will hire people to cover the West Coast markets, including retail and wholesale. “Janine has had her pulse on the West Coast lifestyle and market trends and has followed the L.A. street scene for more than two decades,” he said.
In other recent Doneger appointments, fashion trend expert Amanda Hallay was hired as European trend analyst. Hallay is the daughter of David Wolfe, creative director at Doneger. She was previously a European fashion editor for Couture and MenMode Magazines and a Paris correspondent for International Textiles.
Former Seventeen magazine senior market editor Renee Roman was named market analyst for contemporary sportswear. Roman will work closely with Blain and the West Coast team.
