NEW YORK — A record turnout of 800 to 900 retailers is expected to attend the fall edition of the Intimate Apparel Salon, according to show organizer and owner Carol Bigman.

Bigman, who has been staging the lingerie trade show for 11 years, said the March market, which is among the largest seasonal fairs, traditionally pulls in 600 to 700 merchants.

“We have a very good feeling after talking with all of our exhibitors, and we believe it will be an extremely strong show,” said Bigman, noting a number of specialty retailers from the South will be visiting the show for the first time.

The March 3-5 salon will continue to be staged at the Millennium Broadway Hotel on West 44th Street between Avenue of the Americas and Broadway. Bus service to and from Madison Avenue showrooms at the corner of East 34th Street and Madison Avenue will take place every 20 minutes on Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, March 5, beginning at 9 a.m.

“There’s a pent-up need for new merchandise, especially after November, which is not the most exciting market,” Bigman said. “And people are traveling much more now, especially to New York. So going into March, retailers are definitely feeling very positive.”

About 200 lingerie and swimwear lines from 12 countries will be showcased, including ones from the U.S., Canada, France, Italy, Switzerland, U.K., Spain, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Greece and Austria.

Bigman added, “The show has become an incubator for young designers who can reach retailers looking to find hot, new merchandise, such as Araks and Leigh Bantivoglio.”

Newcomers to the salon include Avanzad, Ilux, Patrizia, Ying Li, Pompea USA, After Eden, C&G Lingerie, Bluepoint Apparel, Henry John Sleepwear, CMI International and Pantyhose Love Glove.

Bigman further noted that approximately 100 merchants who have never visited the salon have registered on the company’s new Web site, intimateapparelsalon.com.
