A high-profile slate of industry executives has been set for the upcoming Global Retailing Conference at the University of Arizona’s Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing.
Designer John Varvatos, Saks Inc.’s chief executive officer Stephen I. Sadove and Wal-Mart chief merchandising officer John Fleming are confirmed to speak at the conference, slated for April 2 to 3 at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tuscon, Ariz.
The conference will discuss the impact of changing consumer attitudes on the retail industry and is entitled “Putting Innovation in Play and the People Who Make it Work.”
Sadove will tackle the topic of “Is Luxury Retailing Dead?” and Tom Murry, president and ceo of Calvin Klein Inc., will speak on “Brand Building and Market Share Growth in a Difficult Economic Environment.” Fleming will take on the subject of “Retail: Business of Managing Consumer Change,” and Craig Phillipson, ceo of Shopworks UK, will deliver a speech on “Maximizing Sales Through Store Planning: It Isn’t Sexy but It Is Effective.” Sally Jewell, president and ceo of REI, will address “Nurturing a Virtuous Cycle Healthy Planet, People and Business,” and Varvatos will close out the conference.
“I’m pleased they have accepted our invitation to speak about what they’ve done to build such powerhouse brands, and look forward to hearing their ideas for strengthening relationships with customers and ensuring long-term success,” said Lundgren, Macy’s chairman, ceo and president. “I know the information they share will not only shape future retail trends, but also be of interest to everyone who has ties to the industry’s ongoing success — including consumers.”
