NEW YORK — In its second key appointment in less than a week, Macy’s East named James Mansour as executive vice president of visual merchandising.
Mansour was a principal of Mansour Design, a New York retail design and brand development firm that he founded. He will report directly to Randy Scalise, executive vice president of stores.
Ron Klein, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s East, said in a statement Monday that Mansour is “a veteran in visual retail design and display…He understands our overall branding philosophy and will interpret it for the consumer by making our stores even more dynamic and exciting places to shop.”
Mansour succeeds Bill Herbst, who joined Saks Fifth Avenue earlier this year as vice president of visual merchandising.
Last week, Macy’s East named Nicole Fischelis as vice president and fashion director for ready-to-wear. Fischelis is a former Saks Fifth Avenue fashion director and Salvatore Ferragamo senior vice president.
Mansour will play an important role in Macy’s national branding strategies, and will work closely with the merchants, marketing and specialty services. His responsibilities will include store design and layout, graphics, store remodels and store openings, creative planning and window displays.
His team will include Mark Minichiello, group vice president of creative planning, graphics and design and store design, and Joan Capaldo, group vice president of visual merchandising.
Mansour’s work history includes a 15-year run at Limited Brands as vice president of design and visual merchandising, working with the Limited, Express and Victoria’s Secret divisions. In 1993, he created Mansour Design for retail concepts and brand makeovers, and had a client list that included Abercrombie & Fitch, Bath & Body Works, Sony Style, Warner Bros., Carter’s Brookstone, Milliken, Vitra and Movado.
Macy’s East is a 81-unit division of Federated Department Stores.
