At least 21 people have been killed and several more injured in an explosion at a shopping mall in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, According to wire and news reports.
Eyewitnesses have said that a blast ripped through the Emab Plaza in an upscale neighborhood of the capital as people were congregating to watch their country’s team play Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil.
No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion, although some are blaming it on Islamic extremists.
Police spokesman Frank Mba said one suspect has been arrested, according to Reuters. Citing a spokesman for Nigeria’s National Information Centre, the wire service reported that another suspect was killed by soldiers as he tried to escape on a motorcycle.
