LONDON — The British discount clothing and home ware chain Matalan has become the latest company to pledge financial support to the victims of the Bangladesh factory tragedy.
Matalan, which has stores across the U.K. and Ireland, said this week it was not using any suppliers based in the factory complex in Savar, a suburb of Dhaka, that collapsed last month, killing more than 370.
However, New Wave, one of the factories in the collapsed building, was supplying Matalan until February.
“As soon as we heard the news, we started working with our key contacts in Bangladesh to explore how we could support those involved,” Matalan said.
“We can confirm that we are working closely with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & Export Association (BGMEA) and our local team in Bangladesh to provide financial and other support to help those affected.”
