Zanardi-Landi, who will be based in Hong Kong, for the past 10 years has worked at LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, most recently as president of China for Louis Vuitton. Prior to LVMH, he was with L’Oréal and Richemont Group, also in roles overseeing Asian markets.
“We have put on a few international executives, including one in charge of our overall business online internationally, and another for stores,” said Millard “Mickey” Drexler, chairman and chief executive officer of J. Crew Group. “We have been building an international team.”
In Asia, “Zanardi-Landi will be the most senior executive.” The executives on the international team include Sarah Casalan, vice president of international direct, and Talley Wettlaufer, vice president of international expansion.
J. Crew’s international business includes one store in Toronto, which opened in August, and online distribution in the U.K. and Japan. In mid-November, J. Crew will commence online distribution in Germany, Italy and France, with additional countries in Europe and other continents seen down the road. A store in London is being considered.
Drexler said Friday he would be leaving the next day for a trip to China with Scully to start developing the strategy.
“We are exploring. We are not rushing into anything,” said Drexler, explaining the company’s attitude toward international growth. “Clearly, we have enormous demand internationally, but we walk before we run. We want to make sure we position J. Crew the right way.”
