Dedicated to promoting the cream of Italian design-school graduates and supported by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, the fifth edition of Next Generation kick-started the careers of four young talents with a runway show in Milan on Tuesday. Up first was Francesca Biondi with pretty laser-cut leather lacelike pieces in shades of gray. Alessia Crea was the most promising, showing rich, demure pieces such as velvet longuette dresses and coats inspired by nun’s habits. Elena Leone’s linear lineup of tunic tops, tubular dresses and shorts was decorated with quirky symbols of Mayan and Aztec civilizations, while Giovanni Clemente concluded the upbeat show with a jazz theme with Art Deco detailing on metallic and floor-length silk dresses.
