The Versus girl has graduated. After last season’s lineup of schoolgirl-inspired tartan and floral dresses, she will be donning black for fall — lots of it. Donatella Versace and Christopher Kane, who co-design the secondary line, opened with a masculine dark gray tailored coat but rapidly switched to more seductive fare. Cocktail dresses were spliced at the midriff to reveal sheer corsets with grids of black or glittered boning that demand model proportions. The body-con black leather numbers may hark back to founder Gianni Versace’s heyday, but they should find plenty of takers among the new generation that has made Versus the go-to label for flirty, feminine chic.
