There’s a lot of talk this week about designers returning to their roots. Carmen Marc Valvo did exactly that with a strong, vintage-inspired collection of gowns and evening dresses — the best of which had a decidedly Forties feel: lace hemlines; calf-length slender silhouettes; multitiered skirts; blush tones, and caviar beading. Fox wraps added another sense of nostalgia, while a black, mink-lined bomber jacket shown over a mohair embroidered silk dress or long cardigans over gowns brought it all up to date.
