London-based Duro Olowu sent out a fantastic collection for his New York debut, which was inspired by South American gauchos and “a certain wildness and classicism” in the films of Mexican actress Maria Felix. He played the deft mix master with patterns and prints, both vintage and of his own creation, and whipped up festive and eclectic capes, ruffled dresses, drop-waist skirts, gypsy blouses and wide cropped pants. Among the patchworked highlights here: the cocoon cardigan, tweed coat and a beautifully paneled, swingy gown.
