A very impressive crowd turned out for Nahm’s debut collection by Nary Manivong and Ally Hilfiger, who found inspiration in the raven, both Edgar Allan Poe’s poem and the bird itself. “It represents Native American culture and the black void, which takes energy and transforms it into different shapes into the world,” explained Hilfiger. Heady stuff for what ultimately was a strong outing centered around the simple shirtdress, which the designers reinterpreted in myriad manners — all chic with an edgy, cool streak. Fall’s variations on the theme include a lovely asymmetric silk shirtdress with knife-pleat details, button-downs with trim collars and sheer blouses tossed over gowns for a slightly Gothic look.
