Checking out Claudia Schiffer’s debut line of cashmere knitwear feels a little like snooping in her closet. The German model is often snapped in chic sweater dresses and chunky cardigans, and her first collection — produced in partnership with German cashmere brand Iris von Arnim — perfectly reflects her lifestyle. “I’ve said no to so many offers that, as you can imagine, over the years have come in because I didn’t want to give my name away until it was a product that is really true to myself and [that] I believe in,” Schiffer said.
The pieces, which will be sold under her own name, range from a featherlight oversize oatmeal cashmere dress to wool and angora cardigans hand-knit with a 1.5-inch needle to sculptural effect. “It’s the feel-good factor,” she explained. “These pieces are things you can just throw on and you’ll look good.” It stands to reason that Schiffer will feature in ads for the line, set to retail in better department stores and specialty boutiques. After all, you are never better served than by yourself.
