Sicilian-born Fausto Puglisi gained some extra visibility at the recent Super Bowl half-time show with the gladiator-inspired dresses he designed for singers Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. In his fall presentation, he showcased a more wearable, urban version of that ancient Roman theme which, paired with an American college inspiration, translated into a sophisticated black-and-white wool crepe pleated dress. Puglisi also used leather for the first time with good results — soft napa biker jackets printed in leopard or geometric patterns, others decorated with hand-embroidered Swarovski crystals and metallic studs — worn over clean, below-the-knee pencil skirts or cheerleader-inspired pleated mini skirts.
