Martial arts and ski gear were two of the influences in the Sportmax collection, which the show notes summed up as “luxurious body armor.” The Asian references were most obvious in stiff satin short-sleeve jackets fastened with a quilted belt, while metallic snaps and chunky sweaters were lifted from the slopes. The design team took the brief a little too literally with body-conscious dresses assembled from panels of textured fabrics, ranging from quilted nylon to decorative jacquards. The stiffest fabrics were cut into curved panels, which were designed to produce a slimming effect but ended up encasing the body like a shell.
