A collector in his own right, Albert Kriemler is not shy to work a contemporary art theme, and for fall at Akris he turned to American expressionist painter Franz Kline for inspiration, with architectural results. Kriemler interpreted his artsy theme with several graphic grid and slashlike prints in strong greens and purples. He evolved the collection’s graphic mood with patchwork-esque color and fabric-blocking, shown on a purple cashmere shirtdress with mink panel inserts, and a beige trouser suit or tailored coat that mixed subtle hints of a soft yellow with bolder yellow panels. For evening, glitzier, disco-ready looks, including a rust-colored turtleneck teamed with flowing pants, seemed out of step with the rest of the lineup, but Kriemler offered several chiffon and velvet alternatives for a quieter night on the town.
