Retro staples like A-line coats, ruched dresses and high-waisted pants never felt dated when embellished with the game-maker’s iconic graphics (asteroids printed on fur collars, adventure key motifs on crepe de chine) or paired with modern pieces such as a cute bib blouse. Sternberg also mixed in well-cut suits and feminine sets like a sequined sweatshirt and matching slit skirt and a dramatic wool gauze cape over a cotton shirtdress. “I loved the shapes,” Sternberg said backstage, “but more so the whole system of dressing.”
