Anyone familiar with Ralph Rucci knows his mastery is in the details. What’s new for fall is his intention to add a younger customer to his Chado Ralph Rucci client list. Accordingly, many of Rucci’s looks featured seemingly nonchalant layers. Short, trapunto-edged leather matador jackets, for instance, were shown over long silk tunics, shirtdresses and pants. He also added lots of vibrant colors to his palette. A wonderful group of mink coats and jackets came down the runway in shocking pink, yellow, chartreuse and violet. The designer was clearly partial to purple this season, serving it up in cashmere suits, sable coats and exquisite lace pajamas.
As for Rucci’s obsession with extraordinarily crafted details — which drives his seamstresses and his furrier, Nick Pologeorgis, crazy — it here resulted in exquisitely crafted beauties. One example: the reversible coat in panels of golden sable connected only by chain links of taffeta, its other side in navy taffeta — a look countless young women would love to wear.
