“American Biker” was the theme of creative director Andreas Melbostad’s pre-fall debut at Diesel Black Gold. He revved things up even more for fall with his “Need for Speed” collection, which he showed on a gritty pier along the Hudson River. “I really liked what we had created so I wanted to give it a bigger platform,” said Melbostad backstage after the show. His girl is a badass, plain and simple. She likes her clothes sharply tailored and cut close to the body. She prefers black, loves leather and if you get in her way she’ll knock you sideways with the monster studs that decorated sleeves, pant legs and dresses. Accessories included ankle-wrap pointy pumps and small clutches with bullets dangling from one side.

Melbostad also played with fabric finishes by staining denim and using a wax coating to mimic oil dripping down a wool coat. This collection is not for the faint of heart, but it’s just the sort of verve the label has needed.
