Huishan Zhang worked his opulent fabrics with a light hand, sending out a collection of youthful silhouettes with an edge.

A blue velvet A-line dress was inset with panels of black lace at the bodice and sleeves, while a gold jacquard shift dress was slashed with black zippers at the neckline and torso. Floral appliquéd black stockings, along with the models’ kohl-rimmed eyes and disheveled hair, added to the sweetly rebellious mood.

Zhang also found inspiration in Roy Lichtenstein’s images of Chinese landscapes. Thus the designer featured abstract cloud patterns made up of hundreds of white dots on daytime pieces such as full-skirted day dresses and structured coats.
