Simon Gao, a Beijing, China-based designer who showed in London after winning the Mercedes-Benz Young China Fashion Award last year, sent out a collection, done mostly in leather, fur and ponyskin, that worked rich materials with a laid-back feel.

Looks included a black leather wrap-over maxiskirt worn with sneakers and a black polo shirt, and an olive-colored ponyskin jacket casually cinched at the waist with a strip of black leather and paired with a pencil skirt and sneakers.

Gao said he wanted the collection to pay tribute to “world civilizations,” and that idea came through in some of his nomadic shapes, such as voluminous blanket coats that cocooned the body.
