Once upon a time, Stacey Bendet became enchanted with the pop-up children’s books of Benjamin Lacombe. Those tales became the foundation for her latest collection, in which she fashioned coats out of fox fur, skirt sets of black and gold brocade and a prim Victorian dress in white that was just right for the fictional Alice.

On the other hand, Olivia got slouchy trousers in men’s wear plaids, high-waist jeans and plenty of knits to pair with cute cap-toe brogues.

Together, that mix of girlish drama and tomboy practicality are just the sort of pieces Bendet’s customers want from her — and the dramatic pleated gown in sapphire blue that her Cinderella wore while perched atop a hill of apples on the whimsical set was the icing on the cake.
