Carmen Marc Valvo’s fall collection could easily have been a blitz of glitz, what with the chain mail, crystal studs, steel-beaded breastplates and metallic brocades. But the designer balanced most of it with matte fabrics and controlled cuts — lean tunics over skinny pants; slender gowns and simple shifts. The best examples included a black calf hair top with a long skirt in crystal-studded lace, and the simplest look in the show: a terrific sheath in ink-black double-faced wool with chain-mail shoulders.
