Cynthia Rowley is herself a bit of a showgirl, so when she heard developer Aby Rosen was bringing back the famed vaudeville spectacle the Diamond Horseshoe to the basement of his Paramount Hotel, she was sold.
Rowley utilized everything the spectacular space had to offer, as guests sipped signature cocktails around the center bar and aerialists twirled above them.
Looking for clothes? The designer’s arty film featuring models wearing the collection — having knives thrown at them, circus-style — was screening on the stage. Live models were ensconced in a glass case in all their sporty decadence.
A bomber jacket and drop-waist dress, for example, were done in bonded piqué, pants were cropped and flared in leather, and a great wool crepe shift was embellished with graphic silk and patent leather patches.
Accoutrements were equally fun, from the reversible fur to striped silk scarves, big bejeweled bangles and the hand-painted boots that made the looks — and the collection for that matter — cause for applause.
