Braving the storm. Elie Tahari’s theme was on the mark during this particularly icy New York season. He held his show inside his Fifth Avenue store, its ceiling covered in a sea of clear plastic umbrellas. The image clearly made Tahari’s point, as did his fall collection that riffed on great, wearable pieces well-suited for biting temperatures.
Standouts came via the more casual looks such as an oversize mohair sweater over cigarette pants in a faint plaid and a tailored black shearling coat with a hand-crocheted top and relaxed pants. Lovely pleated skirts, including a gray one with black insets, added an elegant yet still languid touch.
Tahari’s color palette reflected the wintry mood: mostly black and grays with just a few dashes of red. Or as Tahari put it, like “lightning through the darkness.”
