“Quiet sensuality, night blossoms, beautiful women who come out at night.” That’s how Juan Carlos Obando described his fall collection backstage after the show.

A runner-up in the most recent CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the designer stayed true to his ethos by delivering sophisticated jewel-tone eveningwear, much of it with a sense of lightness and languidness. Silk halter tops and chiffon dresses were layered and tied, offering a touch of Seventies that swung a bit toward Galanos and even Halston.

While Obando’s heavily beaded slinky dresses appeared cumbersome, a white top with tie detail on the neckline and a slinky skirt in a golden hue were standouts.
