Like much of the fashion world this past year, Angela Missoni set her sights on grunge for fall. But before visions of Nirvana sporting space-dye are conjured up, her version was uniquely Missoni. Take the requisite plaid, for example — the designer interpreted it via a sleek black midi skirt with a panel of pleats wrapping one side, and the musical element played out in a series of intarsia knits depicting rock ’n’ rollers. She successfully pumped up the volume with a matted wool cocoon coat and the skirt of the season’s key dress shape, an inverted tulip.
