“Monastic opulence” is how Brian Wolk and Claude Morais described their collection of somber religious silhouettes in rich fabrics. But backstage, in what might seem like a disconnect, the duo said, “Ruffian’s fall collection is a return to glamour and a celebration of women.”
Religion and glamour don’t necessarily go hand in hand, although in this case, the designers somehow made the mix work. Delicate pleated mock-neck collars on blouses, a bishop bomber jacket in a unicorn collage print, a metallic matelassé bed jacket and a long, black robe-style coat over dresses that were cut away from the body.
Offering a lightness were a pixilated floral print on elastic-waist pants, a pretty frock and some pretty full skirts in soft colors.
