Ari Seputra leads the creative trio behind the Major Minor brand, which is one of two Indonesian labels showing in Tokyo as part of a Jakarta Fashion Week initiative. Seputra said he had no idea he was going to show this collection in Tokyo when he designed it, but he made an inadvertent homage to the city with an abstract print based on photos of the Japanese capital’s neon cityscape. It appeared on a series of dresses in varying lengths as well as loose pants and the sleeves of a jacket with angular lapels.
The rest of the collection focused on clean lines and geometric colorblocking within a narrow palette of black, white, red and blue. Standouts included a column dress in navy with a red triangular layer across the chest and a sleeveless dress, also in navy, with folds of white fabric on the skirt.
