In a swift departure from their feminine outing for spring, Mint Design’s Hokuto Katsui and Nao Yagi mined a gritty punk territory for fall. Oversize checks and abstract prints of belt straps, barbed wire and safety pins were worked on asymmetric dresses and jackets. Real safety pins were used as jewelry, while some of the models also sported bottle caps in their hair. Studded leather pieces, including a skirt and dress, added to the tough look. Strains of bagpipe music closed the show. “It’s a kind of anarchist spirit,” Yagi offered.
