Tamae Hirokawa opened her show with a small army of mannequins dressed in her Skin by Somarta knit bodysuits. They served as a backdrop for the rest of her collection, which Hirokawa said was inspired by photos of natural phenomena. The influence played out in certain pieces, namely a dramatic ivory sweater knit in a 3-D skeletal knit motif and a form-fitting dress worked in a print of crystal shards and jewels. The inspiration wasn’t as literal elsewhere. Dresses with kimono closures looked sophisticated, while a range of tweed coats with angular lapels was also appealing.
