Alessandra Rich RTW Fall 2015

The designer oscillates between chic and tacky, while somehow making the result weirdly desirable.

Alessandra Rich’s fictional muse for fall is a “gangsta” girl named Molly. “She’s just been arrested for throwing a bowl of salad onto a blonde girl’s head; she’s really on the edge,” said the designer, who oscillates between chic and tacky, while somehow making the result weirdly desirable.

Wide-leg jumpsuits with cheeky cutouts around the models’ busts, worn on top of little cropped sweaters, signaled Rich’s first rebel yell. Long lace dresses were sleek yet bold in a patchwork of two different patterns linked with a golden thread and stitched over with a macramé chain motif. The designer also focused on outerwear for the first time, showing oversize quilted coats with gleaming metallic jacquard sleeves.

Rich is growing her business. This season she added a line of showy accessories in concert with Molly’s gangsta attitude — “she makes a lot of noise, when she walks,” the designer noted — including chain belts, bucket bags with clunky hardware (a first for the brand) and crocheted over-the-knee socks.

The gaudy lineup did quiet down at times, as in the simple silk caftan done in either black or powder pink, its only detail a delicate silver thread running in vertical lines down the minimalist silhouette.
