Belstaff RTW Fall 2015

Delphine Ninous said she’d looked to the pioneering spirit of aviator Amelia Earhart — who Belstaff dressed in the Thirties — for inspiration.

In creating her first collection for Belstaff, vice president of women’s design Delphine Ninous said she looked to the pioneering spirit of aviator Amelia Earhart — whom the label dressed in the Thirties — for inspiration. Not that Ninous interpreted that touchstone too literally. “It was more about…a strong woman, a daring attitude, going into men’s territory,” said the designer.

That translated into cool outerwear in relaxed shapes, such as a slouchy gray parka with a fur-trimmed hood or a shaggy rabbit-fur coat. Ninous also played with Belstaff’s signature biker jackets, fashioning one in a textured baby blue fabric. While the focus was on outerwear, the designer paired the coats with pieces that underlined the offhand, boy-meets-girl sensibility, such as roomy, heavy wool sweaters, leather maxiskirts and chunky combat or Chelsea boots.
