Pringle’s design director Alistair Carr embraced a variety of lifestyles and types of men this season. Having just treated himself to a customized 1100cc Suzuki motorcycle, he had performance leather on the brain, playing with shiny red or navy motorcycle trousers, and padded jackets in grainy leather. He appealed to the man-about-town with an army of overcoats that came in camel hair or chevron, herringbone, and tartan fabrics. Carr was keen to use knits as outerwear, hence the chunky ribbed crewnecks, waffle-stitch V-necks, and “3-D” sweaters embroidered with thick yarn in a herringbone pattern. Carr worked with technical fibers, too, weaving reflective yarns into crewneck sweaters, which gave them a subtle sparkle, and using a wool and nylon blended for lightweight yet robust sweaters with a modern feel.
