The company decided to go ahead with its men’s show despite the tragedy of the missing Vittorio Missoni, despite the tragedy of the missing Vittorio Missoni, whose plane went missing in Venezuela on Jan. 4. Set to a soundtrack of lazy slide-guitar twangs, this 60th anniversary collection evoked the varied landscapes of North America via myriad new takes on the house’s signature fine-loom knits. In organic shades, from stone and Pacific blue and sunset reds, they were integrated into every facet of the collection. There were softly constructed suits in loom-knit wool-cotton blends and gorgeous double-breasted coats in shaded loom-knit camel hair.
The house also flirted with the athletic trend that is so big this season, sending out youthful jersey knit pants and suede bombers with beautiful knitted backs.
Fringed moccasins, jeans and jean jackets underscored the relaxed mood, capped off with a finale of chunky knits in cream — each backed with vibrant jagged patterns evoking rocks, sunsets and seas — proving a poignantly poetic walk-off. The show mood was naturally subdued given the events, and creative director Angela Missoni was backstage but did not take a bow.
