Following a false start when a pipe burst and sprayed a section of the audience with some hot water, which necessitated a temporary evacuation of the Old Sorting Office venue, the Oliver Spencer show went ahead later than anticipated. Accompanied by a live set by The Specials drummer John Bradbury, Spencer’s typically eclectic cast (this time including guest appearances from Blur’s Alex James and Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp) showed urban-inflected pieces executed in old-school fabrics.
Alongside the Spencer staples — shawl-collar Donegal jackets, nylon macs and Epsom coats — came drop-crotch combat pants and jacket and roll-up trouser combos, all in a heavy-duty herringbone. But how did he lure his celebrity models? “They all wear my clothes so I just rang them up and said, ‘Boys, come and do the show.’”
