The race is on: The race is on: Belstaff’s creative director Martin Cooper took inspiration from the 1965 International Six Day Trial race on the Isle of Man for this rugged collection of luxury outerwear. There were strappy shearling leather coats, a claret parka lined with black shearling, and voluminous waxed motorcycle capes.
Cooper introduced tweed for the first time, in the form of a four-pocket jacket made partly from waxed cotton, and worked flannel onto the revers of a belted trench.
Thick knits played a strong supporting role, made from tubular mohair yarns with a cotton core, and layered under suede flak jackets. Among the standout accessories were chunky gauntlet gloves and supple biker boots fashioned from nylon, canvas and leather.
