Welcome back, Ron! At least to the runway, where one is reminded what always made a Ronaldus Shamask collection for Shamask so special. After a decade of selling (successfully) under the media radar, he has returned to show business with a collection that blends art and commerce: great fabrics, easy shapes with strong, never-overdone angles and asymmetric hemlines, plus clever details that add color and fun without being distracting. The designer knows how to take his starkest shapes and add visual interest, like the tan linen shift that morphs into gold metallic. When things might get tricky, Shamask makes it seamless, even organic. Consider the geometrically cut swingy dress with its black sequined diagonal stripe that extended gracefully into an armband. Leathers are strong here, too: a white kimono jacket; a gold slipdress or a long black shift, closed in back by an “infinity” zipper. The finale is Shamask at his most playful, with a long suede, leather and chiffon dress in red, white, lapis and gold. It’s so nice to have you back where you belong.
