It was one big party at the Gant presentation, where onlookers tapped their feet to lively tunes and sipped rum cocktails while pursuing Michael Bastian’s new lineup. The designer looked to the remote, exotic Galapagos as inspiration, likening his women to modern-day explorers. He injected an upbeat, youthful vibe by layering great jackets over Henleys and striped shirts worn, respectively, with a sarong skirt and printed denim jeans. A group of ombré denim looked beachy, while an army green seersucker suit with a white linen shirt and colorful Ecuadorian woven belt was chic.

 

Bastian continued his theme for men with a well-executed blend of technical gear (nylon Windbreakers, cargo sweatpants) and South American indigenous materials and patterns, like those worked on the chunky Inca cardigans.

 

Thanks to his unique design ability, Bastian has been able to evolve the Gant line from its traditional sportswear roots into a well-defined premium collection. Charles Darwin would be proud.
