Pink flamingos wearing pink wigs — that was Katy Eary’s hero motif for spring. She mined references from Africa for an exciting and vibrantly colored collection that riffed heavily on the flamingos and on leopard print. Models carried skateboards under their arms in a nod to Eary’s ghetto sympathies. Not surprisingly, there were heavy streetwear references too, as in a nylon waffle sweater, a Neoprene bomber jacket in an ombré-effect leopard print, printed jeans with side cargo pockets and acid-hued Nikes. There were big-haired girls in the show, too, whom Eary described in the show notes as: “Desert Lolitas decked out in pornographic party outfits.” That translated into lots of revealing swimwear and gauzy silk wraps.
