In a show presented by GQ China, designer Shangguan Zhe turned out a wacky collection — with references as diverse as Russian prisoners, manga cartoons and boxing rings. Looks ranged from tailcoats with peak collars made from technical black and white nylon, to mesh vests and hooded sweatshirts, while gold-fringed boxing shorts were made from faux fur. Russian prison tattoos provided fodder for prints of bones, rats, Halloween cats and barbed wire that appeared on everything from tops to trousers. Models’ hands, meanwhile, were fitted with big, gimmicky replicas of Popeye fists, lobster claws and gnarled bones — adding levity to this strange style mashup.
