The design team for Dirk Bikkembergs Sport Couture addressed the triathlon man and his three disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. Dozens of athletes took to the catwalk, laying flat on the ground and mimicking swimming to the sounds of a heartbeat. Models entered sporting wet suit-inspired pants and sleeveless leather vests zipped in front. Though the cycling category featured wheels as props, the silhouettes were essentially the same.
The third discipline added leather to the mix, as seen on knit cardigans with inserts. Although black suits featuring slouchy carrot pants added a bit of “couture” to the sporty affair, the collection was thin on ideas.
The spectacle climaxed with Daniel Hofer, the Italian triathlon champion, sprinting down the catwalk. “The easiest run of my life,” he said backstage.
