Fendi’s Karl Lagerfeld is mad about Mod. But rather than riff the youthquake vibe, Lagerfeld channeled a decidedly elegant and ladified version of the Swinging Sixties. Shifts came in textured wool with a metallic shot of Lurex; other dresses, in pretty color blocks or in crushed velvet patterns. Lagerfeld pushed a major eveningwear story, too — gowns with a simple bow flourish in the back, for instance — and even passed through the early Seventies, with hip suede blouses and lean separates.
